Useful probiotic for optimising cholesterol and vitamin D levels

This product is based on Lactobacillus reuteri , the NCIMB 30242 strain. A study in 2012 found that there was a 11.6% reduction in LDL cholesterol levels, when this strain was taken for 9 weeks. Fibrinogen was reduced by 14.3%, a positive benefit for reducing unwanted clotting of the blood. Another study done in 2013 found that the NCIMB 30242 strain increased vitamin D levels by 22.4% after 9 weeks. More studies would be needed to confirm these results. Any result is likely to be dependent on the original cause of non-optimal cholesterol and vitamin D levels, before supplementation with l reuteri. The authors theorise that the mechanism of action is the supporting of conjugation of bile in hypercholesterolemic adults.
